The highest comparative rise in syphilis and other such sexually transmitted diseases has been noted to occur amongst the younger age bracket of women and heterosexual men, especially in the populace of the blacks in the inner city and the Hispanics. However, the experts have said that the rise in the number of venereal diseases has taken place to a certain extent in all crowds of men and women that are sexually active.

Despite the fact that there are no vaccines available to avert sexually transmitted diseases, except for hepatitis B, majority of them could be cured effectively without any undesirable side effects only when these diseases are diagnosed and treated in their preliminary stages.

According to the reports furnished by the disease centers, even as nearly sixty percent of all the cited syphilis cases and eighty percent of the rise were cited in areas like South Florida, California and New York City, 25 from the 49 other cited areas have also reported an increase.

The disease control centers have pointed to the fact that in the United States alone, there have been more than 5 million newly emerging cases of Chlamydia that are surfacing each year. Yet this form of infection that could lead to wounding, irritation, swelling and sterility amongst women, for the most part goes unobserved and hence not being treated as it does not display symptoms in most cases, experts say.

Though there are treatments for majority of the bacterial sexually transmitted diseases, some of these could be quite tricky to be treated, especially in the advanced stages when major harm has been done to the organ. Dr. John LaMontagne, director at the microbiology and infectious diseases program at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, Md. pointed out to Chancroid bacteria and Gonorrrhea as being noted to be the examples of these bacterial organisms that have a potential to pose an additional problem by becoming resistant to antibiotics.

Amongst viral diseases like herpes, acyclovir is an effectual medicine for the treatment of lesions, though there is no visible cure for those countless adults believed to have the infection.

There is no available treatment for HPV or the Human Papilloma virus that leads to venereal lumps and could be the reasons for leading to cancer of the cervix, penis and rectum. Former studies pointed to the possible effectuality of the innate immune system protein, interferon in treating genital warts.
