According to the United States Public Health Service, there are thirteen million cases annually of greater than fifty diseases and syndromes categorized as STD or sexually transmitted disease. Despite excluding AIDS, there are still thirteen million cases that have been already been recorded and seven thousand deaths yearly.

The relapse of these atypical diseases is an indicator that these STD’s have majorly resurged. Despite the Federal Government’s intended stand to shell out 65 million dollars during the present year for programs and studies; and conceivably an additional forty million dollars for research work for the fight against STD’s, yet it is an insufficient rejoinder to diseases that have an annual cost bearing of four billion dollars on the society.

The present proliferation of the disease is related to unsafe sexual practices and promiscuous behaviourisms that are particularly distressing to the health officials due to the related soaring risk of AIDS transmission.

Such sexual malpractices not only raise one’s likelihood of exposure to the AIDS virus, but studies have additionally implied that some of these diseases, especially those ones that lead to blister and ulcer formations,  could raise the probability that the AIDS virus could locate an access way into the body at the time of sexual contact with an infected mate.

Worrisome Trend In Atypical Venereal Diseases - Part IIDr. Ward Cates leading the STD division at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta has stated that the health officials consider that the mounting occurrence of such diseases is related to the augmented cases of prostitution that barter sex for drugs and the major diversion noted in the local venereal disease control endeavours to curtail the perils of AIDS. He further added that it was a disturbing trend to notice syphilis cases rising after years of being at a low, especially when a fall was noted in the gay male society related with safety measures against AIDS. However, the increased cases noted in heterosexuals seem to nullify these gains.

Dr. Cates pointed out that the reappearance of STD’s has been seen to have commenced since the later part of 1985. The nation wise figures of cited syphilis cases have risen 30% since 1985 soaring to greater than 86,000 in just two years and are rising at a steady pace.

When AIDS surfaced as a major concern, many experts stated that several local health departments as a combat measure turned to existent sexual disease consultants and services, repeatedly offering no new resources to support the battle. In response to the increased cases in conventional STD’s seen presently, a number of departments have engaged greater resources to support this fight against STD’s.
