The problem with habits such as smoking is that conciously we know all its dangers, and the benefits of giving up. However it is more difficult to tell our subconsicous mind this, which is the part of the mind that is responsible for our habits and drives. Hypnotherapy can help educate this part of the mind and therefore persuade it to change permanently.
