Tips To Protect Your Home From Allergies And Asthma

There are N number of people worldwide who are asthma & allergy patients. Allergy is caused because of allergens. Allergens can be in any form, germs, dust, dirt, pollens or tiny insects. Here we have some measures to prevent the infection of allergies  & asthma.

Keep your house clean by avoiding dust, dirt, dander caused due to pets & pollen.

The dust & dirt particles contain mites, the tiny insects that can cause allergies & asthma. Similarly pet & human dander & pollens are also one of major reason that can make a person victim of allergies & asthma. The key measure to keep yourself protected from these diseases is to keep those places clean which get easily accumulated by dirt & are easily accessible in our day to day life.

  • Include usage of air conditioners instead of fans, keeping your windows closed will also help reduce the arrival of dirt & dust particles in your house.
  • The other measure to avoid dust & dirt is keep the flooring clean by replacing carpets & rugs because carpets are made from such materials that traps dust. Usage of vacuum cleaners every other day will surely help you to reduce accumulation of dust & dirt particles, vacuum cleaners with HEPA (high- efficiency particulate) technology filters are advisable. Instead of carpets hardwood, tile & linoleum flooring is preferable.
  • Covering mattresses, box springs & pillows with allergy proof or plastic covers will also help you keep your place away from infection of allergies & asthma.
  • To prevent your home from allergens use furniture made from materials like wood, plastic, leather & vinyl which can be easily cleaned.
  • Use washable curtains or drapes instead of window blinds. There is the possibility of accumulation of more dirt on blinds & it also becomes difficult to clean them.
  • Use safety mask & gloves while cleaning & vacuuming.
  • Avoid pets, but if you have them take some precautionary measures like bathe them regularly, try to keep them clean & avoid their contact with upholstered furniture & bedrooms.

Mold prevention

  • There are many types of molds including toxics. Mold occurs in moist places, so try to keep your home dry as much as possible. This will help allergy sufferers to stay away from asthma, congestion & other allergy related symptoms.
  • Avoid wet clothes in washing machines which can increase the chances of growing molds.
  • Asthma and allergiesUse mold killing products.
  • To avoid contact with allergens in kitchens & bathrooms use exhaust fans, dehumidifiers or ventilators.
  • Use leaks or seepages in household, indoor & outdoor areas.
  • Use dehumidifiers in areas having humid climate, humid climate tend to increase the growth of molds.
  • Keep humidifiers & dehumidifiers clean.
  • Installation of vapor barriers on concrete flooring is a advisable measure to keep mold contact stay away.
  • Preventing & controlling entrance of cockroaches  & other insects

Cockroaches are found in maximum areas including living places. Cockroaches stay in damp places, so try to keep your home clean & dry. Cockroaches contain a protein in their droppings which is a blunder reason for asthma infection. Keep food & other eatable items in air tight containers, clean kitchens, utensils & appliances thoroughly after use. Garbage trash cans should be kept clean. Use insect killing products or block the openings normally wall cracks & floor gaps which welcome cockroaches & other insects in your home.
