Tips for Removing Particles from the Eye

The eyes are the most delicate parts of our body; so we must be extremely careful while treating our eyes or while cleaning them. In this article we’ll be discussing the process of removing particles from the eye.

  1. First, blink the eye for triggering the production of tears. You should never rub the eyes; doing so might result in rubbing of the harsh particle with the inner walls of the eyes, which can cause damage to the eye tissues and give birth to a painful condition.
  2. Now, lift the upper eyelid of your affected eye for splashing cool water into it. Doing so will flush out the particle trapped by the upper eyelid. This can be done most effectively by using an eyecup or small glass filled with water (the water must be clean to avoid entering of more particles into the eye).  Position the water filled eyecup or glass on the eye in a way so that its rim gets to rest over the bone on your eye’s base. Next, tip the head backwards; this will flush the eye, Instead of filling the eyecup or glass with water, you can also use saline eyewash available in the market.
  3. Now, once the flushing is done, pull down the upper eyelid on the lower eyelid and blink for a few times. The eyelashes of the lower eyelid might help in sweeping away the particle.
  4. If the particle entering your eye is visible, it can be removed using a cotton swab soaked in water or saline eyewash. During this process, you will have to first hold open the lower or upper eyelid based on the part of the eye the particle is in. Next, using the soaked cotton swab’s end gently remove the particle from the eye.
