Penile Implants – An Effectual Way Out For Erectile Dysfunction

Mostly considered a matter to be jibed or wisecracked about, the inflatable penile implants seem the last resort for many men with erectile dysfunction also known as ED. This demoralising problem has been observed to affect the lives of thirty million men in the U.S. alone. With the available options such as Viagra and parallel drugs, there are still nearly one-third of those individuals that consume such medications do not seem to be availing any of its benefits.

In such circumstances, many resort to penile implant surgeries. With the three forms of treatment options like pill-intake, shots and implants available, implants seem to top the list in patient approval. The reasons for their wide-ranging popularity are their permanence, absence of side effects and no necessity of follow-up meetings with the doctor. These implants are hardly perceptible when normally observed.

Penile Implants – An Effectual Way Out For Erectile DysfunctionThe widely used implants are inflatable in nature. During the surgery, two cylinders are introduced within the penis that is connected to a pump positioned in the scrotum, with a reservoir placed beneath the muscles of the groin. When needed the pump is to be squeezed. This would cause the filling up of the cylinders with the saline solution being emptied from the reservoir that leads to an erection. Following the act, the pump is used to drain out the cylinders. With progressive research, future implants would be even more hassle-free.

The slight hitch that accompanied these implants is a minor chance of contracting infection along with chances of mechanical malfunction. An observation that has been drawn states that almost 1 in ten implants would break in the initial 5 years. Yet, this still seems quite an optimistic number for those not responding to medications. However, as there is no blood supply to the penile tip, the erection would appear a tad bit shorter subsequent to surgery.
