How To Prepare Homemade Lotion For Eczema

Eczema is a chronic skin disease characterized by symptoms like skin inflammation, itching, dryness, small blisters, red spots and thick skin. This skin disease mostly affects body parts like ears, face, hands, elbows, wrists and knees. Doctors generally prescribe topical ointment containing steroids for treatment of eczema. These ointments might help in removing the signs of eczema for a certain period of time; however, after some days the symptoms recurs. Besides that, such topical creams trigger several side effects due to the presence of chemicals and steroids in them. This makes homemade eczema lotions containing natural ingredients more beneficial compared to the chemical rich store bought ointments. In this article, we’ll be discussing about the process of preparing a homemade lotion for eczema.

To prepare the homemade lotion you will need to use the following ingredients: an essential oil with anti-inflammatory properties (here we are using lavender oil), olive oil, emulsifying wax and water. Take ¼ cup each of olive oil and emulsifying wax and put them into a microwave proof container. Melt the two ingredients in microwave for 1 minute. Once you bring out the melted mixture, stir it well so that the two ingredients blend well with each other. Now, heat 1¼ cup of water. Put 24-26 drops lavender oil into the previously prepared oil mixture and stir the mix well. As the water gets boiled, also pour the water in it. This will give you a milky white mixture. Put the lotion into a glass container and allow it to sit overnight. The next morning you will find a semi-solid mix in the container. This homemade lotion should be used whenever you are bothered by eczema symptoms.

You can also prepare a mix of oils and apply it topically on the skin areas affected by eczema. The most effective oils for eczema treatment include names like: calendula, jojoba, rosehip seed and vitamin E oils. The affected skin areas can also be massaged with an essential oil mix containing rosemary, lavender, carrot seed, chamomile and bergamot oils.
