H1N1 Swine Flu Fatal Among Youngsters

According to the lately mentioned confirmed reports by the CDC, the H1N1 swine flu has flipped the flu fatality statistics in a major way.

During a normal occurring flu season, ninety percent of the fatalities are observed in the older-aged individuals. However, statistics taken from September have shown ninety percent deaths in below 65 year old individuals – with nearly a quarter of fatalities among youngsters below twenty-five years.

According CDC reports, the trend has taken a total reversal with almost ninety percent of deaths in individuals below 65 years. This demonstrates that the H1N1 virus has been observed to affect youngsters in a disproportionate manner.

As would be anticipated from the fatality toll, majority of those being admitted to hospitals with acute H1N1 swine flu are youngsters. Examination data obtained from twenty-seven states have revealed 53% of those hospitalized due to swine flu being below 25 years and merely seven percent being from the older age group.

H1N1 swine fluHowever, majority of reported swine flu cases are from those having medical conditions that are not all severe, but nonetheless puts the person at greater risk of developing flu-associated complications. Hence, those with asthma, diabetes among others conditions are at heightened risk and hence need to undergo vaccination.

H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine Distribution Still potholed

All those planning on following CDC’s advice and going in for the H1N1 swine flu vaccine or the spray must commence making plans.

The flu vaccine finder is available in the flu.gov website that provides links to every state. Majority of the states have comprehensive data that inform about which suppliers in close proximity would be able to provide the vaccine.

The initial vaccines would be offered to the health care workers and those at heightened risk of developing flu-related complications. Till now, thirteen million dosages have been released to states and more than half being distributed in the flu jab form.

As requirements are far surpassing the availability, it is quite uncertain whether all who desire to get vaccinated might be able to actually avail it prior to the ending of November.
